Safe Driving Summits

Georgia DOT is conducting a series of Safe Driving Summits around the state to educate high school students about the benefits of avoiding distractions and making smart decisions when behind the wheel. The summits are part of our overall mission to educate the public about simple changes that can improve safety and save lives.

Partnerships

Georgia DOT works with non-profits and partners to conduct Safe Driving Summits to teach teens to drive safer on our roads.  Since 2021, Georgia DOT has partnered with the Lutzie 43 Foundation to host Safe Driving Summits. The Foundation aims to encourage and empower drivers to be positive ambassadors for safe driving through character development, mentorship, and real-world application.

Breakout Sessions

Students attend breakout sessions conducted by experts in the emergency response, law enforcement, and healthcare community. These sessions provide students with hands-on simulations, resources, and testimonials about the importance of safe driving habits.

Presented by a Local Trucking Company

In this breakout session a local trucking company will lead small groups of students through how to safely share the road with tractor-trailers. Students will learn about stopping distances, blind spots, passing, general safety and distractions, when it comes to driving with these large vehicles. Students will have the opportunity to tour tractortrailers, climb in the cab of the truck to see what Professional Truck Drivers see, as well as what operations they go through. This session is designed to take the fear out of sharing the road with tractortrailers and replace it with confidence.

Presented by Georgia State Patrol & Local Law Enforcement

In this session, students will hear from law enforcement officers from the state, county and city agencies. The representative from each agency will describe the role, responsibilities and geographical coverage of their agency. Representatives include a state trooper, county sheriff and city officer. Additionally, students will hear first-hand how these agencies work together and what they have observed with teen drivers across the state. These law enforcement officers will provide teens with advice and tips they can use in the car to protect themselves and other drivers.
