Alternative Intersections​

Georgia DOT has implemented several alternative intersections throughout the state that aim to increase mobility and enhance safety for motorists traveling on our roadways. Alternative intersections can be a safer and more efficient option than conventional intersections. ​

Roundabouts

A circular intersection that provides a reduced speed environment that offers substantial safety advantages and excellent operational performance.

Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) Intersection
​

An intersection design that reduces crashes by changing how minor road traffic crosses or turns left at a major road reducing the potential conflict with other vehicles.

Displaced Left-Turn (DLT) Intersection
​

An alternative intersection that allows left turning vehicles and through-traffic to travel simultaneously through an intersection.

Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI)
​

A diamond interchange that crosses traffic to the opposite side of the road across an interchange so vehicles have unimpeded movement onto the freeway ramps.
