MultiModal Passenger Terminal (MMPT)

Overview

The Georgia MultiModal Passenger Terminal (MMPT) will bring together various bus and rail transit services in a centralized downtown Atlanta location. The Georgia MMPT is envisioned as the hub for existing and proposed transportation networks across the state including Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail and buses; Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA) Xpress buses; Gwinnett County Transit (GCT); Cobb Community Transit (CCT); Megabus; Greyhound intercity bus; and planned intercity and commuter rail service.

Project Need
The Atlanta region lacks a transportation hub that provides a central facility and transfer point for its existing and future intercity, regional and local transit services. The Gulch also creates a large void in the downtown that physically and psychologically isolates surrounding destinations and districts from one another.
Project Purpose
It is anticipated that the proximity of the MMPT to central downtown Atlanta will provide the catalyst for additional development opportunities within the MMPT site and in adjacent locations. The Georgia DOT is seeking a Master Developer to build the MMPT and transportation improvements in part by leveraging the potential for retail, commercial, and residential projects it will receive the rights to develop.

Environmental Studies

President Obama announced that the Georgia MMPT is a nationally and regionally significant infrastructure project that has been included in the White House’s We Can’t Wait initiative. An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is ongoing and the White House’s announcement raises the priority of the Georgia MMPT’s project. In collaboration with the Master Developer – Forest City/Integral/Cousins (FIC), the environmental team has been collecting existing conditions data for several months. With the development of three conceptual designs, the next phase of environmental study will include analysis of the project’s alternatives and the assessment of the potential impact on the natural, cultural, social, and physical environment. The public is encouraged to stay engaged by attending meetings and by connecting via facebook and/or twitter.

- Design Concepts - View three preliminary design concepts for the project development in the Gulch. Compare and contrast size, location, design, and incorporation of rail, bus, MARTA, trolley and pedestrian access.
