Phase One
Georgia DOT is pleased to announce that on March 19, 2009, the State Transportation Board approved the list of recommended Phase One (minimum 50% in 120 days) transportation projects.
Project List
These project selections were made with keen attention to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) federal funding guidelines, including focus on job creation, potential for positive impact on Georgia’s economically distressed areas (EDAs), and project completion within three years.
The 135 projects in our Phase One stimulus program are valued at more than $512 million. Based on Georgia’s ARRA highway stimulus appropriation, Georgia DOT is required to obligate at least $326 million (50% of $787 million) by June 2009. These first projects were let in May 2009.
This proposed Phase One list is subject to review and certification by Governor Perdue. ARRA requires that Georgia DOT obligate its Phase Two projects by February 2010.
Phase Two
On Thursday, August 20, 2009, the State Transportation Board approved a list of projects for Georgia’s Phase 2 Highway and Bridge ARRA list. The 162 highway projects represent a total estimated construction cost of $493 million. 62% of these Phase Two projects are located in federally-designated Economically Distressed Areas (EDAs) across the state and 71% are locally requested projects.
