SR 316 Interchange

SR 316 Interchange Project Site
On November 15, 2011 Georgia DOT began a 2.2 mile project to extend limited access along SR 316 in Gwinnett County. Crews will reconstruct the first two signalized intersections (Collins Hill Road and State Route 20) into one interchange serving both roads.
Project Information
Current Status
Bridge to take Collins Hill Road over SR 316 is under construction now. The vertical support columns and horizontal bridge beams are in place. Crews poured the first section of the bridge deck or driving surface April 1, 2013. It will take 3 more concrete pours to complete the driving surface.
Crews are excavating dirt on State Route 316 at SR 20. The grade of SR 316 must be lowered by 20 feet. The new bridge that will take SR 20 over SR 316 has just started. Crews are digging down to create the space for the concrete columns that will support the bridge. Rock is in the area so the digging is slow. The bridge has 6 columns. Once the concrete columns are in place, the horizontal bridge beams can be set. There are 16 beams in this bridge. Next steel plates will be welded in place between the beams creating one structure from the vertical columns and horizontal beams.
