I-285 Top-End Resurfacing Project

I-285 / I-75 Interchange Ramp Closures (Weekend of 3/15/13)

Beginning at 9PM, Friday, March 15, Georgia DOT will close several I-285/I-75 interchange ramps in Cobb County as part of the top end perimeter resurfacing project. Detours will be in place for each ramp while it is closed.

3/16:	I-75 SB Loop ramp and I-75 NB ramp to I-285 EB

Project Description

Georgia DOT crews perform deep milling on roadway.

Georgia DOT has begun a $56 million resurfacing project on I-285. Crews will resurface 10 miles of I-285 between Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County and Ashford Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County.

Roadwork will consist of resurfacing entrance and exit ramps in the corridor and deep-milling (excavating and replacing up to eight inches of pavement) on the I-285 mainline. Crews will also repave ramps and shoulders along project area. Also, guardrails will be repaired and installed. Work is scheduled to continue for up to one year with a completion date of August 2013. This is a joint venture of C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc., and E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc.

Background

Due to budgetary constraints, the Georgia DOT has been unable to repave the top end portion of I-285 since 1994-95.
High traffic volume and inclement weather such as the ice storm in 2011 have caused the 10 mile stretch to become a priority during the 2012 construction season.
The contractors are executing a quick turnaround time in hopes of getting as much of the work completed before the winter season.

I-285 corridor accommodates nearly 250,000 vehicles daily. Motorists should expect significant congestion and long delays – especially on weekends. Travelers are strongly urged to utilize the alternatives of eastside I-285, I-85, Georgia 400 (tolled) and I-75.
