State Transportation Board
Overview
Georgia DOT is governed by a 14-member State Transportation Board which exercises general control and supervision of the Department. The Board is entrusted with powers which include, but are not limited to: naming the Commissioner; designating which public roads are encompassed within the state highway system; approving long-range transportation plans; overseeing the administration of construction contracts; and authorizing lease agreements. Board Members are elected by a majority of a General Assembly caucus from each of Georgia’s fourteen congressional districts. Each board member serves a five-year term.
Lithonia Industrial Boulevard Extension Opening
On Wednesday, May 8, State Transportation Board Member Robert L. Brown, Commissioner Keith Golden and DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis cut the ribbon on the recently completed Lithonia Industrial Boulevard Extension. This $26.4 million project extends the existing Lithonia Industrial Boulevard from Rogers Lake Road to State Route 124/Rock Chapel Road on new location. The roadway has four 12-foot lanes, a 20-foot concrete raised median, curb and gutter, and 5-foot sidewalks on both sides. Also constructed with the project was a 330-foot bridge over Swift Creek.
